mobile restriction in effect May 3, 2008

As of May 1st, the new law — yes, the same one for which you have heard the very bland commercials on radio went into effect. Namely, you cannot use your mobile phone without a headset while driving.  This is a Good Thing™ as would any law be that would help the traffic situation.

Proving that they were serious; the Ministry of Interior issued 150 violations on the first day of the law coming into effect.

So watch out, stay safe, and buckle up.

Kuwait Election “Process” April 28, 2008

So for a foreigner like myself, the Kuwait election process seems a bit like a circus. At last count, there were 300+ candidates, hoping for 50 seats, across 5 constituencies. That’s not the circus bit; in almost any democracy there are more candidates than seats. The circus bit is how the election “process” is actually taking place, namely:

After two years of not playing, I am back at World of Warcraft (WoW) and happy to report that after re-activating my account, my characters were still there!  If you are ever on Bronzebeard on the European realms, give one of the fine chaps below a /wave (Grovey is my main).

Today when I logged into facebook I found a new bar at the bottom of my home screen; and a nice popup telling me about the new facebook chat feature (which I think is a great idea).

They are currently beta testing the service and if you don’t see a bar it because you were not selected for testing.

Thawte is a company that provides security and identity solutions (things like SSL certificates); and one of their products is a free email certificate; which allows you to sign and encrypt emails for added assurance.

Never satisfied with their Earthly customers, its apparent that Thawte is looking beyond the final frontier in attracting customers; and to verify their identities — notaries are also accepted from beyond this world.

Trip Along The Beach April 19, 2008

It was so lovely outside today — just the right amount of sun; and despite the dust, there were a lot of families enjoying the breeze out by Gulf Road.  After my lunch at Applebee’s I decided to walk out a bit (since I pigged out on the dessert — damn you temptation!) and I snapped a few photos along the way.

By the way, Applebee’s has some excellent coffee — I was shocked at the quality and had to get a second helping.

It Had To Happen April 19, 2008

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A St. Petersburg rooster who used to herald the new day was silenced after a man allegedly fatally shot the bird.

Eric Nicastro, 33, took a BB gun and went after the young auburn cοck Saturday morning, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. He later upgraded to a handgun and chased the rooster into a neighbor’s yard.

After shots were fired, a neighbor said she heard Nicastro say: “I got him!”

Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Bordner said Nicastro then threw the rooster’s body into a creek.

Witnesses called authorities. Deputies who responded to the scene saw Nicastro toting a gun. He was cited for improper exhibition of a firearm and given a warning for trespassing. The state attorney’s office will decide whether to charge him.

It’s unclear who owned the rooster. A phone listing for Nicastro could not be located Sunday.

Never, underestimate the power of sleep deprivation.
